I started this painting two years ago with the simple purpose of depicting the characters from Hayao Miyazaki's "Spirited Away", specifically the bathhouse workers. However, over the years I have grown into characters from other anime series that I enjoy. As time went on, I took it a step further and started adding real-life people in traditional Japanese clothing, filling the bridge with a bustling crowd. The characters under the bridge are inspired by classic characters such as Shi Jin, Lin Chong, Wu Song, and Yan Qing in the Japanese novel "Water Margin", as well as popular animated characters in recent years. One of the most challenging aspects was researching and capturing the essence of the traditional Japanese festival. It took me two years to painstakingly bring this piece of art to life, exploring its unique characteristics and complexities.
